Job Description

Vet Tech Institute of Houston is actively seeking a Veterinarian to join our Faculty in Houston, TX today! No formal teaching experience required – just a love for veterinary medicine and the ability to help students gain the knowledge and skills to be excellent LVT’s.


Vet Tech Institute is a fully accredited Vet Tech program located in the Galleria area in Houston. We're an accelerated program, with students awarded their AAS in 18 months with full eligibility to take their VTNE and become Licensed Veterinary Technicians. We have an on-site kennel, so students get animal care practice every single day, and we have a diverse staff from a variety of disciplines. We receive very good feedback regarding the skills and enthusiasm of our graduates, and are very proud of them. Our faculty share a passion for animals and teaching, and they bring their industry experience to the classroom. Program-specific faculty and a cohort of peers focused on the same goal provide a focused environment to maximize student learning.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience

  • Serve as an instructor with a focus on creating a compassionate and supportive learning environment for Vet Tech students
  • Responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating all campus-housed dogs and cats (animals rotate out every 4 months), work with lead veterinarian to divide animal duties. 
  • Comply with all USDA record-keeping requirements
  • Interpret diagnostic images and create well-documented treatment plans
  • Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, and other body fluids for examination and analysis
  • Administer anesthetics, perform/assist with surgery and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with assistance from the team
  • Minimal on-call, as support for student care of housed animals
  • Teaching duties include: creation of lesson plans, lecturing, lab coordination, grading of in-class and surgical practical skills based on rubric
  • Model maturity and dedication to excellence with the faculty team


  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree required
  • Licensed in the state of Texas
  • 3+ years of clinical experience as a Veterinarian
  • Comfortable and friendly around all types of animals
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to students in ways they can understand
  • Patient, supportive, and people-oriented with superior documentation skills

· Exotic species/lab animal/large animal experience are a plus (but not required).
