Coffey's Veterinary Center is a privately-owned practice located in the beautiful, rural heart of South Central Kentucky. Rolling hills, forests, and farmlands surround our community, which is located a half-hour's drive from two relaxing lakes (Green River Lake to the north, and Lake Cumberland to the south). We pride ourselves on providing quality care, comprehensive diagnostics, and advanced treatment options that are usually reserved for urban practices. In-house diagnostics we provide include bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, ultrasound, digital x-ray, and 3D-CT. Services we provide include preventative medicine, internal medicine, orthopedics, ActiStem Therapy, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatments, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, dental cleanings and extractions, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, blood transfusions, end-of-life care, and cremation. Our practice provides both routine and emergency care, and every day is different with unique experiences, challenges, and victories. Dr. Coffey relies on trained technicians to operate diagnostic equipment, assist in surgery, and carry out treatment procedures as directed, allowing her to provide care to many more patients per day than is expected by a practice of our size. I started at Coffey’s Veterinary Center as a student volunteer in January of 2020. Since then, thanks to Dr. Coffey’s training, I have gone from knowing nothing about veterinary medicine to being able to assist with surgeries, help with CT imaging, apply emergency techniques for critical patients, the list goes on, but overall I’ve been better able to serve my community. Dr. Coffey provides opportunities that no other clinic in the area offers, from learning about general practice to CT imaging and even stem cell therapy. As long you are willing to learn and persevere you can advance your own knowledge and even help better the community by contributing to some of the most state-of-the-art procedure in the area. When I think of Coffey’s Vet Center, I think of a second family. I love many things about my job, but I love the people I work with just as much. Over the time I have been employed there, I have learned a lot. This job has given me the opportunity to be hands on with my learning. I have had the opportunity to: • assist Dr. Coffey in surgeries • draw blood • take x-rays • work to save emergency cases • run blood work • fill and refill medications • clean and treat ears • set up fluids … and so much more! I have even learned some life-long lessons of what hard work and dedication looks like outside of school. However, one of my favorite parts of the job is seeing a very sick animal go home doing so much better. This is only after hours, days, and weeks of hard work put in by all the staff, and even 24-hour care, on occasion. I even have been able to help rehome some of our rescues, or surrenders, including my newest family member, my own baby kitten! As a young girl, in love with the idea of one day being a veterinarian, this job has presented me with the experiences needed to obtain a head start on making that dream come true. I also enjoy how every single day is different; no day has the exact same patients, or procedures. A day can range from routine check-ups and procedures, to emergency surgery in a matter of moments. Although, one thing all the patients have in common is they are all treated with the utmost care and love while at Dr. Coffey’s clinic. Everyone there is always looking out for the best interest of the animals that walk through the door. Whether it be a simple checkup, or something potentially life threatening, the staff all makes sure we do everything in our power to send your animal back home happier, and healthier than when it walked, or carried in. What makes my job so enjoyable, aside from the team I work with, is that it doesn't feel like a job at all. I wake up every day, excited to see what it holds as I prepare for work. I believe it was Mark Twain who once wrote, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” That’s what this job, at this place feels like to me. Dr. Coffey and the staff have taught me so much, all while being very kind and patient through my mistakes, and my setbacks. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities Coffey’s Vet Center has provided me with. I will also be forever grateful for the opportunities provided to me through this job. I will be forever grateful for all of my great co-workers and Dr. Coffey’s guidance. Dr. Coffey has shown me what true love and compassion looks like. She never fails to provide the best care to all of the animals placed in her path, no matter what. A great example of that care and compassion is an organization in honor of one of her late, dear friends and employees of over a decade, Missy. The Missy’s HEART organization is run by Dr. Coffey and her daughter. HEART stands for: HELP EVERY ANIMAL RECEIVE TREATMENT. The goal is to make sure no animal dies due to their owner’s lack of financial means. This is just one of the many ways I am reminded every day of how terrific my workplace is. Vets like Dr. Coffey are few and far between. No matter the day or hour she will always be there and willing to help. When you find your animal in trouble and in need of medical attention, you can count on Dr. Coffey and her devoted team.

The experience at Coffey’s Vet Center is always rewarding, challenging, and I’m always learning something new. Doctor Coffey is an incredible boss, and an even better veterinarian. Whenever I have a question about anything, she explains it in a way that she knows I’ll understand. Everyone else employed there are great team members and the environment is rich with camaraderie, there is never a dull moment. We feed off each other’s attitudes and good energy, as well as bounce ideas back and forth when it comes to completing tasks and how to proceed with specific patients. In my experience, I have never had a moment where I didn’t feel welcomed or appreciated. Especially by Doctor Coffey. Anyone with a passion for veterinary medicine and patient care is encouraged and driven to keep learning and absorbing new information. For me personally, it has been my favorite place to work, simply because it doesn’t feel like work when I’m there. Even the harder times and sad days, we all come together to be there for each other and our patients.

I’m the senior front desk receptionist at Coffey’s Vet Center. Working at Coffey’s Vet Center is such a joy for me. Not only is it a fun environment but also comes with learning new skills all the time. I’ve been working at the vet for about 4 years now and I have learned so much in my time being here.
