Employment Type Part-Time, 20 hours per week, temporary position.

Position Overview

The Research Technician 1 will support ongoing research projects focused on gene editing and molecular biology in poultry species. This role involves hands-on laboratory work and animal husbandry, contributing to innovative research in agricultural and biological sciences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general laboratory tasks including:
    • Tissue and blood collection
    • DNA extraction and purification
    • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
    • Gel electrophoresis
    • DNA preparation for sequencing
    • CRISPR gene editing techniques
  • Conduct husbandry and management practices for breeding gene-edited poultry species
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety and ethical standards in laboratory and animal care practices
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • No prior experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or experience in biology, genetics, or animal science
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
  • Experience working with animals in a research or farm setting
Work Environment
  • Laboratory and animal facility setting
  • May involve handling live animals and biological samples
