Job Title: Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor)Location: Cambridge, MA (Onsite)Position SummaryWe are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor) to support routine animal husbandry and vivarium operations in a rodent facility. This role involves daily care of laboratory animals, environmental monitoring, and cage maintenance, all in compliance with institutional and regulatory animal welfare standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily husbandry tasks including feeding, watering, and routine cage changing for rodentsMonitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report observations to supervisory staffMaintain cleanliness and organization of animal rooms and facility workspacesRecord environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity) and health observations accuratelyEnsure proper cage labeling and assist with animal identification trackingCommunicate effectively with vivarium staff to support seamless operationsAdhere to all SOPs, institutional guidelines, and IACUC protocolsProvide weekend and/or holiday support on a rotating schedule, as neededQualificationsAssociate degree or equivalent required; coursework in animal science, biology, or related fields preferredExperience with laboratory rodents and routine cage changing preferredStrong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate recordsReliable, punctual, and capable of working independentlyALAT certification (AALAS) preferred or willingness to obtain if extendedPhysically able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods EEO EmployerApex Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
