Job Description
General Functions:
This key position is responsible for the care of impounded animals, cleaning of cages, kennels, and related spaces in the animal holding areas. Provides customer support, facilitates interactions between adopters and pets, and supports surrender mitigation efforts. Assists pet owners with alternatives to surrender and promotes successful adoptions by introducing visitors to available animals.
Work is performed with considerable independence and judgment under general supervision. Work is reviewed and evaluated for satisfactory performance.
Representative Duties/Assignments:
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Cleans and disinfects animal runs, kennels, cages, receiving and holding areas to ensure the health and well-being of animals.
- Feeds and waters shelter animals daily.
- Assists Animal Services Officers in the intake and impounding of animals.
- Maintains inventory of kennel supplies and completes routine forms and reports.
- Facilitates pet adoptions by introducing visitors to adoptable animals.
- Supports pet surrender appointments by helping owners explore alternatives to relinquishment.
- Assists the general public within kennel areas as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
Preferences
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of procedures for the care and humane treatment of animals.
Experience in handling and restraining large and/or dangerous animals using animal control equipment.
Experience in using a computer and related animal services software.

Pay Grade: 009 - From $17.01 to $21.56
