Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Small Animal Research Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform dosing of test agents in small animals through various methods, including intraperitoneal, intravenous, epicutaneous, intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and oral. This role involves scoring test agents, assessing the subjects' reactions, conducting post-procedure euthanasia, and documenting routine clinical observations. Additionally, the technician will assist with animal surgery preparation, anesthesia monitoring, incision monitoring, pain assessment, medication administration, blood collection, preventive health maintenance, veterinary-directed care, and general husbandry procedures. Communication with veterinarians and study directors is essential for maintaining optimal living conditions and medical status of the animals.
Responsibilities
- Perform dosing of test agents in small animals using various methods.
- Assess and score test agents based on subject reactions.
- Conduct post-procedure euthanasia following established protocols.
- Document routine clinical observations, physiological data, and animal health status.
- Prepare animals for surgery and monitor anesthesia during and after procedures.
- Perform incision monitoring, pain assessment, and administer medications post-procedurally.
- Conduct intravenous and cardiac blood collection.
- Perform preventive health maintenance, such as nail trims and bathing.
- Execute veterinary-directed care and general husbandry procedures according to protocols.
- Communicate with veterinarians and study directors about animal living conditions and medical status.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of routinely used equipment.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
- Animal handling and animal science expertise.
- Experience in animal research and veterinary procedures.
- Comfortable with preclinical research and euthanasia.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in veterinary, biology, or related field required.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or ALAT certification preferred.
- Technical, hands-on experience with job duties listed.
This role involves working with small animals such as rats, mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits. The job requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, reaching, and lifting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance. The work environment requires viewing computer monitors and standing for extended periods.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
