Marine Mammal Trainer

This position is responsible for participating with the daily care and behavioral conditioning of bottlenose dolphins. The employee's primary objective and responsibilities will be to play a vital role in the daily guest interactions. Other responsibilities can include but are not limited to diet preparation, facility/habitat maintenance, accurate record keeping, and round-the-clock animal observations.

Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the daily care and behavioral conditioning of bottlenose dolphins.

2. Participate in the progression of animal training goals and standards for the dolphin population.

3. Maintains a high level of professionalism while performing roles in daily guest interaction programs.

4. Implement and maintain a comprehensive animal enrichment program for the Animal Training Department.

5. May perform all behaviors required for our guest interactions, gating, water work for presentation and husbandry.

6. Lead high probability gating and separation scenarios throughout the day.

7. Plays a role in the development and implementation of animal training projects and programs that serve to enhance animal care, animal management, guest experience, and facility public relations.

8. Possess a good knowledge of cetacean natural history, individual animal histories and husbandry.

9. Able to identify all animals in the dolphin exhibit area and observe any possible abnormalities.

10. Understand safety guidelines for all in water interactions.

11. Attend all seminars and all tests required.

12. Play a key role in maintaining the highest standards in the areas of husbandry/cleanliness, diet preparation, record keeping, 24-hour animal observations, and facility maintenance.

Experience Required

1. Preferred: Four-year degree in biology or related field. 2. One to two years behavioral conditioning experience with bottlenose dolphins. 3. Certified SCUBA Diver. 4. Florida DL, or the ability to obtain one. 5. Valid passport, or the ability to obtain one. 6. Proficiency with Personal Computer (P.C.) hardware and contemporary software including Google Workspace.
