BASIC SUMMARY: Performs general housekeeping in order to maintain a clean SOP-compliant facility and provides as-needed support of vivarium operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified. *Removes trash, sweeps, mops and provides general cleaning and sanitization of all areas, including floors, corridors, stairwells, restrooms, necropsy, Facility surgery clinic and procedure rooms. Performs said duties in other facilities as needed. *Cleans and re-supplies bathrooms as needed. *Scrubs down and sanitizes rooms. *Transports equipment and supplies between rooms and facilities *Assists in the repair and maintenance of cage wash equipment according to applicable SOPs. *Shares responsibility for maintaining appropriate inventory levels of housekeeping supplies. *Provides assistance to Technician II's in completing husbandry duties as needed. *Receives and stores animal feed, bedding and supplies, records and files the appropriate information. *Operates cage wash equipment, and ensures equipment is in proper working order. *Adheres to all established safety procedures. *Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed. *Performs all other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: *Education: High School Diploma or GED. *Experience: Minimum of one year of experience performing cage wash in a laboratory animal facility; experience with the safe handling of chemicals, detergents, and disinfectants; and previous experience performing receiving technician duties. *Certification/Licensure: None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: *Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. *Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills and prioritize duties. *Ability to successfully complete tasks with minimal supervision. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: *While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel and reach; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk at a rapid pace, stoop, kneel and reach. *The employee must regularly lift, push, pull and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds and frequently lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. *Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: *While performing the duties of this job, the employee often works near moving mechanical parts, with or near toxic or caustic chemicals, and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, wet/humid and hot/cold conditions and the risk of electric shock. The employee may work in precarious places *The employee will comply with all applicable personnel protective equipment requirements. *The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. COMMENTS: *None. *Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. *The employee must regularly lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: *General office working conditions, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. *While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in high, precarious places and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/ or humid and temporarily hot or cold temperature conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, biohazardous materials/agents, infectious disease, and risk of electric shock. *The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. *The employee must be approved to wear respiratory, eye and hearing protection. COMMENTS: *Each employee is responsible to verify and validate his or her job output as specified through verbal and/or written instructions. Verbal and written instruction may include training, policy statements, work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, or workmanship standards. The max pay rate is $21.50/hr for this position
