My Desert Dogs is hiring an experienced Kennel Attendant to join our team.

This position is for someone who has hands-on experience working with dogs in a professional or structured environment, such as a boarding facility, kennel, dog daycare, animal shelter, veterinary office, grooming salon, rescue, or similar animal-care setting.

We are looking for a reliable, calm, detail-oriented person who understands that kennel care is about much more than cleaning. This role requires safety awareness, patience, compassion, strong observation skills, and the ability to follow procedures consistently.

About the Role

As a Kennel Attendant, you will help care for dogs staying with us for boarding and daycare. You will assist with feeding, cleaning, potty breaks, basic care routines, monitoring dog behavior and health, and helping maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.

This is an active, hands-on position that requires comfort working around dogs of all sizes, including large and strong dogs.

Experience Required

Applicants should have prior experience in one or more of the following:

Boarding kennel or pet boarding facility
Dog daycare
Veterinary office or animal hospital
Animal shelter or rescue
Grooming salon
Dog training facility
Professional dog walking or pet care
Other hands-on dog handling or animal-care roles

We are looking for candidates who already understand the responsibility that comes with caring for dogs in a professional setting.

Responsibilities
Provide daily care for boarding and daycare dogs
Feed dogs according to instructions and facility procedures
Provide fresh water, potty breaks, and comfort throughout the shift
Clean and sanitize kennels, play areas, bowls, bedding, and common spaces
Monitor dogs for changes in behavior, appetite, energy, stool, or overall health
Safely handle dogs of different sizes, breeds, ages, and temperaments
Follow medication, feeding, and special-care instructions when assigned
Assist with check-ins, check-outs, dog movement, and transitions as needed
Report behavior concerns, illness, injuries, or unusual observations to management
Follow safety, cleaning, and communication protocols
Help create a calm, clean, structured, and caring environment for every dog
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

Experienced in kennel, boarding, shelter, veterinary, daycare, or similar dog-care work
Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes
Calm, patient, observant, and responsible
Reliable, punctual, and professional
Detail-oriented and able to follow written instructions
Comfortable cleaning thoroughly and consistently
Able to recognize basic signs of stress, illness, discomfort, or behavior concerns
Team-oriented and willing to support the daily flow of the facility
Focused on safety, cleanliness, kindness, and quality care
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

Stand, walk, bend, squat, lift, and clean throughout the shift
Safely handle active dogs, including large and strong dogs
Work around barking, dog hair, water, cleaning products, and active kennel areas
Lift supplies, bedding, bowls, and other kennel-related items as needed
Remain alert and focused during busy periods
Work in both indoor and outdoor areas as needed
Schedule

Part-time and/or full-time availability may be available. Weekend, evening, overnight, and holiday availability may be required, especially for boarding care.
