Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for overseeing greenhouse experiments and livestock-controlled design of experiments to evaluate the impact of treated water for reuse for direct animal/plant consumption. This position emphasizes applied, hands-on research. Training will be provided for specialized techniques, instrumentation, and experimental protocols.

Formal research experience is appreciated but not required. Candidates with farm, ranch, greenhouse, animal care, or ag operations experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Research Technician are to support laboratory, greenhouse, and field research focused on tunablerelease inorganic fertilizers and water reuse for irrigation and animal consumption. Research activities focus on improving nutrient and water use efficiency in integrated crop-livestock systems. The technician will assist with experimental design, soil-plant experiments, animal experiments, data collection, and analysis under the supervision of faculty researchers.

This position is a 2-year, research funded position. The position will be responsible for overseeing greenhouse experiments and livestock-controlled design of experiments to evaluate the impact of treated water for reuse for direct animal/plant consumption.

Essential Functions:

Maintain laboratory, greenhouse and barn safety standards.

Assist with procurement of supplies and inventory management.

Contribute to report preparation and manuscripts as appropriate.

Collaborate with faculty, students and technical staff.

Daily care of research animals (cattle, goats) to ensure that animals are properly fed, watered, and their areas remain clean, while also ensuring the animals health and addressing any health concerns as needed.

Monitoring daily water intake and growth/weight of research animals.

Responsible for daily checks of greenhouse to ensure all technology is working correctly as well as cleanliness of greenhouses.

Monitor health and growth of research plants and crops, record growth and other data needed.

Support planting, fertilizer and pesticide applications, crop management, harvesting, and biomass measurements.

Monitor environmental conditions and experimental treatments.

Maintain accurate laboratory, greenhouses and barn records, notebooks and digital datasets.

Qualifications

Associate or bachelor's Degree in an Agricultural related field is preferred but not required (if applicable, must provide credentials of completed coursework).
