Job Description:
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery is a full-time faculty position responsible for teaching, research, and service in the field of veterinary medicine with a particular focus on small animal surgery. Faculty in this role are expected to foster student learning, participate in research or scholarly activity, and engage in service to the profession and community. The position carries primary responsibility for teaching small animal surgery in pre-clinical and clinical courses, contributing directly to the mission of the University and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Required Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( DVM / VMD ) or equivalent degree.
Eligibility for licensure in the state of Florida.
Preferred Qualifications:
Residency training, advanced degree, and/or specialty board certification in small animal surgery.
Previous teaching experience in an academic setting.
Veterinary clinical experience in small animal surgery.
Demonstrated record of research, scholarly activity, or professional contributions.
Note: Academic rank upon hire will be determined by University policies administered by the LMU Office of Academic Affairs. Scholarly activity is expected of all faculty members. Prior evidence of interest and experience in research is an asset but not required for this position. Mentorship in research activity will be provided.

Develop and deliver graduate-level courses, classes, and laboratory sessions in small animal surgery, clinical skills, and other assigned areas.

Utilize team-based learning and other active-learning strategies to promote engagement, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making.

Create instructional materials, including learning videos, handouts, and presentations, aligned with curricular objectives.

Establish and maintain course goals, objectives, and outcomes for lectures, laboratories, and other learning activities.

Translate surgical knowledge into clinically relevant applications to enhance student learning.
Job Duty:
Uphold high standards of intellectual integrity and academic excellence in all teaching activities, ensuring that course content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant.
Job Duty:
Prepare, administer, and grade assessments, in coordination with Academic Affairs staff, that measure student achievement of learning outcomes.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades, evaluations, and performance.
Job Duty:
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support their academic development and clinical competence.
Job Duty:
Participate actively in College and University committees, meetings, and assigned initiatives.

Support the development of institutional, program accreditation, and other required regulatory activities.
Job Duty:
Develop and/or engage in research or scholarship in small animal surgery that enhances teaching, advances clinical practice, and contributes to new knowledge consistent with OPCVMs mission and research expectations.

Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research projects and grant applications.
Job Duty:
Mentor students in scholarly inquiry and research skill development.
Job Duty:
Maintain professional veterinary licensure as appropriate for responsibilities of the role.

Complete required continuing education as mandated for all OPCVM faculty by the Florida Commission for Independent Education and other relevant licensing, credentialing, or regulatory bodies.

Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional growth.

Foster professional relationships with peers, students, clinical partners, other academic programs, and external stakeholders to advance the Colleges mission.
