A Kennel Attendant's main purpose is to clean the Shelter to maintain animal health and safety by preventing diseases and the spread of diseases while providing humane care through daily feedings and medicating. This position also assists Shelter Technicians through proper animal handling to keep Technician's safe while they administer vaccinations, draw blood, and move fractious animal safety to different enclosures.

Cleans and sanitizes all areas of the Animal Shelter from kennels, cages, hallways, and sally ports to prevent the spread of diseases.
Move animals safely from enclosures using appropriate animal handling and safety equipment.
Assist Shelter Technicians by providing proper animal handling and drawing up vaccinations as requested.
Prepares daily meals to meet the animal's nutritional needs and provides clean drinking water throughout the day.
Give daily medications during feeding rounds as instructed on each animal's medication chart to maintain animal health.
Operate dishwasher to wash and sanitize all food and water bowls, litter plans, and feral cat boxes to eliminate all bacteria present on surfaces.
Operates washing machine and dryer. Folds laundry for all of the linens and the cloth toys used daily.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
- Must have the ability to read and write.
- Must have the ability to operate office equipment such as basic computers, telephone, copier, fax, etc.
- Have a passion for animals and the ability to interact with them.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Have fundamental knowledge of the principles and terminology that allows performance of the basics for a job.
- Knowledge of City and County Animal Control Laws, NC Animal Welfare Act, and employee handbook.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities of handling the use of controlled substances, dispensing medications, drawing blood, administering vaccinations, euthanasia, run diagnostic testing, and performing behavior assessments.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate office equipment such as basic computers, telephone, copier, fax, computer, etc.
- Ability to provide efficient and effective customer service.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities to appropriately handle animals and use animal safety equipment such as catch pole, feral cat box, EZ Nabber, Kevlar gloves, muzzles, blankets, net, etc.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities to properly document when medication is given and the proper handling of vaccinations and syringes.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities to be compassionate towards animals and be professional in the workplace and with the public.
Physical Activities, Visual Acuity, and Working Conditions for this Position.
Climbing - Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion
Balancing - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium

Minimum Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent and comfortable working with Animals (preferably in an Animal Shelter) and the ability to interact with animals and the Citizens or a combination of education and experience.
License or Certification Requirements:
- Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
