Job Description

Emergency Veterinary Hospital, a 24-hour AAHA critical care veterinary practice is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician. Please send your resume to click to view

Job responsibilities include:

 

  • Triage incoming emergencies
  • Perform phlebotomy from all veins in sick and/or injured patients
  • Assess and maintain patient comfort through pain relief, gentle handling techniques, providing clean, dry bedding, and decreasing stressors as much as possible.  Provide support via oral or parenteral routes.  Make sure patient is clean prior to discharge
  • Perform various support tasks required for DVM on duty such as surgical preparation and assisting, radiography, restraint, set-up for various procedures, etc
  • Initiate fluid therapy under DVM’s orders using various colloids, crystalloids
  • Induce anesthesia using various anesthetic agents, intubate, and be able to monitor with or without monitoring equipment
  • Recognize signs associated with bleeding disorders and treatment procedures
  • Placement and maintenance of various tubes (feeding, nasogastric, etc.)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ABCD, crash cart familiarity, recognition of arrest and initiation of CPR)
  • Use laboratory and monitoring equipment
  • Chart documentation, quality control, and entering charges using DVMAX software
  • Calculate drug doses and constant rate infusions
  • Enter controlled drugs in drug log when administered
  • Participate in hospital rounds and communicate patient history/current treatments to technicians on next shift

 

Requirements;

- Graduate of an AVMA approved veterinary technology program or legally credentialed to practice veterinary technology in some state or province in the United States, Canada, or other country. 

-If licensed in another state, you must take and pass the Oregon Juris Prudence Exam prior to practicing as a veterinary technician in the state of Oregon.  Passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam and acquiring certification is mandatory.
- Prior experience in veterinary medicine (emergency medicine a plus)
- High school diploma or GED
- U.S. Citizenship or proof of legal status
