Equine Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the barn, treatment areas, stalls and lab are clean and organized.

  • Assisting the veterinarian by restraining horses and ensuring the safety of the veterinarian and client.

  • Sterilizing equipment.

  • Assisting with TPR's, administering medication, drawing blood.

  • Performing diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests.

  • Communicating with veterinarians and other veterinary assistants to ensure continuity of patient care.

  • Complying with hospital standards, rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Maintaining medical records.

  • Preparing and submitting lab samples.

  • Assisting with maintenance of clinic.

Veterinary Assistant Requirements:

  • Equine experience required.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Physically strong and dexterous, and ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Available to work over weekends and holidays when necessary.

  • Must live within half an hour of the clinic for on-call availability.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: Up to $25 per hour depending on experience

Experience:

  • Veterinary assistant: 1 year (Required)

  • Equine: 2 years (Required)
