Description:
Oversees the daily operations of an animal care facility including the routine care of animals and maintenance of equipment. Serves as a resource in the management of a particular technical specialty such as mice or primates. Provides technical assistance to research and clinical medical personnel in the performance of research and emergency procedures. Feeds animals and supervises the administration of special diets and medication. Assists veterinarians with grooming and pre- and post-operative animal care. Collects blood, urine and other required specimens from animals as requested for medical research. Observes and monitors animals for signs of illness, trauma or social instability. Monitors environmental conditions in animal housing facilities and inspects the condition of facilities and equipment for cleanliness and proper operation. Ensures that the facility complies with federal regulations for care and maintenance of research animals. Maintains daily records pertaining to animal care. The Yerkes National Primate Research Center, Emory University, has an opening for a Veterinary Pathologist in the Division of Pathology. Minimum qualifications include a DVM or equivalent degree and ACVP board certification or eligibility. Prior experience with diseases and pathology of nonhuman primates is a highly desirable asset. Primary responsibilities include providing a diagnostic pathology service to the Center, both in support of the clinical care of the nonhuman primate colony and in support of a variety of ongoing research projects. The successful applicant will collaborate in the support of ongoing research. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in teaching laboratory animal and primate pathology as well as develop an externally funded research program within 3 years of hire. Salary is negotiable, based on the applicants' experience. The Yerkes Center maintains a colony of approximately 3,000 nonhuman primates which includes macaques, mangabey monkeys, squirrel monkeys, cebus monkeys and chimpanzees. A rodent vivarium is also located on site. Research programs at the Center include infectious diseases and vaccine development (AIDS, malaria and others), neuroscience, vision research and psychobiology.

Veterinary hospital seeking kennel attendant Responsibilities: Animal Caretaker - feed and water all animals; monitor condition of all animals for physical and mental health; check-in and out all animals from boarding facility; perform baths and nail trims to animals as required. Facilities Maintenance - Clean all kennels and cages daily; clean drains in kennel daily; clean all surfaces (walls, lights, shelves, doors, etc) in facility weekly or as needed; maintain outside areas free or feces at all times using scooper; maintain parking lot area free of trash and debris; maintain daily light landscaping chores (watering plants, etc); sweep and mop entire facility daily; take all trash from facility to dumpster daily; seasonal cleaning of exterior surfaces such as walls and sidewalks; other facilities tasks such as painting, deep cleaning, detail cleaning as needed; cleaning bathrooms daily. Customer Service - Must be able to interact professionally with clients; must be able to enter tasks performed into point of sale system; must be able to discuss current condition of boarding animals with owners on phone and in person; must be able to ensure that all animals are clean and fresh smelling at discharge; must wear scrub pants and shirt, may occasionally be called on to fill in in any other capacity around the hospital. Hours: 2-3 days per week 8am - 6:30pm; Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Possibilities for additional hours. Attitude & Personality: The right candidate must be outgoing and hard working. There is a great deal to do each day so the candidate must be able to work independently at a high speed while still maintaining high standards. The candidate should value teamwork and should have a positive attitude. Suitable candidates must understand that we are dealing with family pets, and that they need to be cared for as if they were our own. The candidate should be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs unassisted. Candidate should be comfortable dealing with large and at times unruly dogs and cats in a kind and gentle manner.
