1. Design, construct, assemble, test and install existing and newly developed and specialized equipment and systems in washing centers and other designated areas.2. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair washing center equipment including, rack, tunnel and bottle washers, autoclaves and gas sterilizers, bedding dispensers, automated cage waste disposal vacuum systems and animal automatic water delivery systems and sanitation components. Oversee maintenance of rodent euthanasia equipment. Maintain activity logs and records. 3. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair animal life support systems including aquatic systems, automatic water systems, individually ventilated cage (IVC) systems and computerized lighting controls and monitoring systems. Troubleshoot and assist with development of new machinery and equipment to meet operational requirements4. Recommend and implement design enhancements and improvements to machinery and equipment to support and ensure maximum efficiency. Develop and evaluate performance and reliability of equipment.5. Assist with identification and development of preventive maintenance programs for equipment within the Yale Animal Resources Center.6. Set-up and operate machinery, hand and power tools and other equipment for the fabrication, testing and modification of instruments, equipment, components and systems. 7. Develop time and cost estimates and material requirements for existing and new machinery and equipment, in conjunction with the Materials Management and Sanitation managers. Recommend orders for materials and supplies. 8. Train staff, appropriate to level, in troubleshooting, maintenance and minor repairs. Oversee basic equipment maintenance tasks performed by staff. 9. Communicate with Materials Management and/or Sanitation manager regarding equipment malfunction and with equipment manufacturers regarding technical issues and repairs.10. Drive YARC vehicles between animal facility locations and/or for picking up machinery and supplies from vendors.11. Coordinate activities of external service providers and contractors responsible for repairs and maintenance of YARC equipment.12. May perform additional related tasks, as necessary.13. Serve as the principal source of information regarding equipment design, repair and maintenance.
