SAIC-Frederick, Inc.’s Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The LASP contributes to improving human health, developing new treatments, and improving existing treatments for cancer and other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals. The Sr. Laboratory Animal Technician is responsible for performing specialized tasks associated with the breeding, care, treatment and testing of laboratory animals in support of the Center for Advanced Preclinical Research (CAPR). The individual will perform rodent technical procedures and tests, including the administration of experimental drugs; collect samples; observe and record physical signs of animal health; record test data; and be responsible for maintaining a proper living environment for rodent breeding colonies. Tasks are performed independently and may involve the training of Animal Care Personnel and/or Lab Animal Technicians. Work is checked periodically for application of proper techniques. Training will be provided in specialized technical procedures, as needed. Working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Position requires working in multiple facilities both shower in and change in. REQUIRED SKILLS: Any combination of education and progressively responsible technical experience which qualifies the candidate to sit for the LATG Certification Exam within 12 months of hire - or - Bachelors degree in Life Sciences or Veterinary Technology. Will encourage achievement of LATG Certification; however this is not a requirement. LAT certification preferred.
