The Animal Caretaker I will be responsible for a variety of routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care in biomedical research. He/she will perform general animal housekeeping and cleaning duties, stock supplies, keep simple records, and will perform related duties required for the proper care, feeding and housing of laboratory animals. Specific duties include receiving, sexing and identifying animals; properly handling and transferring animals to clean cages; and operating cleaning and other animal support equipment. Will perform health and mortality checks, make observations of animals and record data on animal history charts. New assignments will normally be accompanied by detailed instruction, and completed work will be checked for accuracy and compliance to established standards. Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials or may be located in areas where such materials are used.
