GROOMER'S BEWARE Jester Plaza Vet Clinic
Location: Houston, TX
Description:
Groomers applying at Jester Village Vet Clinic Beware. If the dog you are grooming bites you and you raise your voice or spat it for doing this you will be fired on the spot! The office manager, Tricia , ADMITS SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT GROOMING, she doesn't have any advice to give you as how to handle a dog growling snareling and biting you, but if it does bite, and you even raise your voice you will lose your job! You are just suppose to keep letting it bite you while you pick it up and put it down to give it a break. Now of course, you are suppose to be able to produce a perfect cut while the dog is biting you that the owner is satisfied with. It's a nice place, and the non -agressive dogs aren't kept in a cage, which is a good thing. But if you get your get your hand bit so you are unable to work, they will just get another groomer so don't think you are special. By their own admission, they go through groomers pretty fast. As I was packing up my equipment, Tricia came and asked me if the muzzle I had to use on the dog (until I got to it's face) was mine, insinuating I was stealing from the clinic. The muzzle was my own. She just thought it MIGHT be hers because the clinic had some. Mind you, I had all my own equipment, clippers, guards, pedi paws all in a carying case. I did not use anything of theirs. Also, they don't give you the bathing and brushing jobs, they take them. There isn't enough dryers for you to get your work done, you have to work around them. They may have 4 or 5 dryer heads, doesn't help much when you have one and they are using four. No one loves animals more than me. I am definitely not for violence or abuse of animals. I tried to talk to her, and make her understand that you can't just let the dog keep biting you, you have to show some control. Now mind you, I didn't beat or hurt the dog, I spatted it and said no! I took it by the nape of the neck as an Alpha Female would and that was wrong too. The receptionist even admitted that the dog tried to bite her and was very agressive. I had to take it out wrapped in a towel becasue it would not behave. Because several other groomers before me were able to groom the dog without getting bit, she felt there was something wrong with me and fired me without letting me finish my dogs or paying me. I asked her what I was SUPPOSE to do when a dog tried to bite and Tricia, or the vet tech had no answers. No use in having a battle of wits with unarmed people. People who work around GROOMING, sell the services, and hire groomers need to know about GROOMING and the hazzards....hello!!!!! And Trisha is the office manager??? OWNWERS, remember you are still liable if you dog seriously injures a person. THIS VET DOES NOT PAY FOR MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR EMPLOYEES. If someone gets bit by YOUR dog, YOU are liable for the medical bills. I'm sure they will be deleting this ad because they don't want you to know this! A groomer makes a living with their hands and if they can't work, how are they going to pay their bills? Times are tough now, and I really needed a job, but I believe God doesn't shut a door without opening another one. I have been grooming for many years and I have never hurt a dog intentionally. I love animals in general all kinds and sizes. I prefer their company to most humans. If you child does something bad you are going to punish them because you love them and want them to do better. It's like that with an animals too, but they don't have reasoning power, and they don't understand time out. Dogs don't understand what they are being punished for unless you do it in 4 seconds or less. I'm open for learning here. So a dog bites you and keeps trying to, you aren't allowed to raise your voice, I'm guessing a spray water bottle would be considered abuse also.........so I'm open to suggestions. After I calmly say "No, you bad dog, don't you bite me any more," in the process of it biting me again, what is the proper ettiquette to address them with on the second, third, forth bites, etc.?
